Method
THE ORIGINAL ROMANA’S PILATES METHOD IS BASED DIRECTLY ON THE TEACHINGS OF JOSEPH PILATES
Method
In recent years the term “Pilates” has been casually used in sports clubs or wellness centers which has led to some confusion about the true definition of the Pilates method. All types of Pilates are not identical. Some preserve the original teachings of Joseph Pilates, while others adjust the method to suit their own needs.
The original Romana’s Pilates method (True Pilates New York Studio) is based directly on the authentic teachings of Joseph Pilates. This method is different because it refers to the system of exercises designed, developed, and taught by Joseph Pilates, whose unique approach has proven itself for over 80 years.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL
THREE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES:
MENTAL CONTROL, FLEXIBILITY, AND CORE STRENGTH
AT THE PHYSICAL LEVEL
The goal of Pilates is to allow the individual to find a physical balance by focusing on strengthening the "powerhouse" (abdominal muscles, buttocks, lumbar muscles). This deep muscle group is crucial to the harmonious development of the whole body, supporting its entire bone structure. The method helps correct posture through three fundamental Pilates principles: mental control, flexibility and core strength.
AT THE MENTAL LEVEL
Each Pilates exercise is done with precision and fluidity, necessitating great concentration in order to control the body in coordination with each breath.
Whether utilizing a mat or different apparatus, the Pilates method does not impose a repetitive routine; rather, it is adapted for each individual. It is a personalized training modified in harmony with one’s physiology, fatigue, mood and progress.
